For those of you who were hoping to watch K shine at the task (or perhaps fall flat on his face), know that K has walked the plank. I'd say 'jumped ship', but he was offered a way out and took it. For what it's worth, he did sleep on it.
You're no doubt wondering why we let him off so easily, before we really got started. The fact is, when we first talking about doing the cleanse, I told K that he wouldn't be forced to do it, that we might be excited about it, but it needn't involve him. Then, just a few days before starting our transition, we pretty much did - force him, I mean. The two choices left him little option. Yesterday he was already complaining that there was nothing to eat and he was going to starve, even though one of the tenets of the cleanse is 'if you're hungry, eat'.
Anyway, as much as we would like to see him eliminate or reduce his intake of sugar and caffeine, perhaps now is not the time. Just as it's probably not the best time for A to hop on board, and it's something she, at least, might like to try.
Today's challenge is to eliminate sugar and alcohol. Oh, alcohol, my sweet love, how will I ever survive our parting? Okay, I'm being silly - those of you who know me well know that I'm practically a teetotaler. Sugar will be more difficult, though, since it's well hidden in so many things. When I was thinking about today's menu, my first idea was to have a bagel again, like I did yesterday. But no! I realized; bagels contain sugar!
I haven't decided on what's for supper yet, but here's what I've had so far:
Breakfast - oatmeal porridge with frozen blueberries, peaches, walnuts and wheat germ, one teaspoon of maple syrup (we're allowed to use it sparingly), and almond milk
- two Gloria brand cream crackers with margarine
- one quarter of a juicy navel orange
- one cup of regular coffee with almond milk and one teaspoon of maple syrup (afterward I realized I could've used Stevia, since I have some in the cupboard)
Lunch - a bowl of carrot and orange soup
- one cup of fruit salad (orange and pineapple pieces, along with blueberries)
I will probably have a salad a bit later on. Stay tuned for more details!
