"Look straight ahead and fix your eyes on what lies before you" is the first verse I am memorizing this year (it's short and easy and I figure success will encourage continued future effort on my part). While the passage goes on to talk about marking out a straight, safe path and not falling into the ways of evil, I am focusing just on this one verse and making a more general application of it to my life.
I'd already started rehearsing the verse daily when my daughter told me she thought my mother and I might have ADD. This was based on her opinion that we tend to get easily distracted during a conversation. At the time Ae observed this, I was driving through our city's downtown area, interested in noting stores I'd never paid attention to before or that had newly opened, while she attempted to pursue a deep theological discussion. Timing is everything, dear girl!
While I'm pretty sure I don't have ADD - I can focus quite nicely when necessary, thank you very much - I admit that I can get distracted from the task at hand. I can be drawn away from writing by dishes in the sink, I can be pulled from house cleaning by surfing the net, and - oops, it's time to go to work - no exercise again! With the opportunity of a new year and a clean slate, I decided to set my mind on the things that I must do if I am going to be successful in 2012. Things like growing spiritually, establishing a disciplined writing routine, getting regular exercise, and decluttering.
I am fixing my eyes like one who moves toward a pinprick of light through a dark tunnel. I am looking straight ahead, pursuing what I am called to do.
Is there a verse that is guiding you this year? If you are willing to share, what are you and God working on together?

"And I am convinced that nothing can ever separate us from his love. Death can't, and life can't. The angels can't, and the demons can't. Our fears for today, our worries about tomorrow, and even the powers of hell can't keep God's love away." Romans 8:38
